WHERE WE ARE IN THE STUDY

Week 1 of “Surely God Is Here” (Genesis 28:10–22): we’re training attention—learning to notice the Lord on the road and in ordinary rhythms.

Some of the most faithful parts of life don’t look “spiritual” at all.

1) What’s the short origin story (how did Pintabean start, and what made you commit to roasting)?

“Since I can remember, coffee has been a part of my life… Growing up, my dad always had a pot of coffee steaming away… When we would visit my grandma, she had a pot of coffee nice and warm… Fast forward… my wife and I found ourselves in the Seattle area and we were exposed to a much different coffee scene… I never knew how delicious and complex a cup of coffee could be… when we had some downtime from COVID, I made my jump into the roasting world… It all started on a cast iron skillet and I moved up to a drum roaster… After receiving great feedback… I decided to try and offer incredible fresh roasted coffee to others… What was a hobby has now become a passion…”

2) If someone is brand new, what’s your “start here” recommendation (one product + why), and what’s the simplest way to brew it well at home?

“If you’re used to a big can of ground coffee, that’s ok! I’m here to help you level up your coffee game! The best thing you can start with is a burr grinder… but, if you’re not ready for that, you can order ground coffee from us. I would recommend a medium roast coffee, such as Guatemala or Columbia, or a darker roast such as our Market Blend or Kenya. Brew it how you normally do and enjoy. The coffee you receive from us will be super fresh and roasted to perfection.”

3) What are your top 2 bestsellers right now, and how would you describe the flavor in normal-person language?

“Currently, our two best sellers are our Market Blend and our Vietnam Lam Dong. The Market Blend is a mix of three beans with tasting notes of chocolate, brown sugar, vanilla, and cedar… super smooth… (great) hot coffee, iced coffee, cold brew and espresso. The Vietnam… is super chocolaty with notes of roasted nuts and is very smooth… also… great hot, cold, and as espresso.”

4) What does “fresh roasted” practically mean in your process?

“When we say ‘fresh roasted’, we mean fresh! The coffee that you receive will be roasted within a few days of your order… The coffee… in the grocery store was likely roasted months ago… We usually roast 2-3 times per week…”

5) What’s one customer story or moment that reminded you this business matters?

“We have been blessed to be part of The Lake St. Louis Farmer’s Market… One of our regulars… was pregnant at the beginning of the market season, (then) came back with her precious newborn… my wife and I quickly remembered the exhaustion… To have the ability to bless someone with a cup of coffee… encouraged this new mom that she was doing a wonderful job!”

WHY THIS FITS FEBRUARY (“SURELY GOD IS HERE”)

Genesis 28 begins with a tired traveler, an ordinary night, and a “certain place.”

And then—God meets him.

A warm cup of coffee won’t replace prayer.

But it can become a cue.

A small, repeatable moment that says: slow down; remember; pay attention; God is here too.
